On 13 May 2026, the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea participated in the “1st Multi-Programme Projects’ Dialogue on Energy in Tunisia”, held in Tunis and organised within the framework of the Interreg NEXT MED project RESt4GREEN. The event gathered representatives of European cooperation programmes, public authorities, research centres and energy stakeholders from across the Mediterranean to discuss the future of energy transition and climate cooperation in the region.
During Session 3, dedicated to innovation for sustainable Mediterranean systems and coastal transitions, Alberto Cozzi presented the Interreg Euro-MED project RENEWPORT together with the Interreg IPA ADRION project ADRIREC.
The presentation focused on the role of ports in the energy transition, highlighting how ports are evolving from major energy consumers into resilient and renewable energy hubs. Particular attention was given to the challenges currently faced by Mediterranean ports, including energy security, decarbonisation needs, and the importance of scalable and locally based renewable energy solutions.
RENEWPORT was presented as a concrete initiative supporting renewable energy planning in ports through practical tools and pilot activities. The project is developing:
- a renewable energy calculation toolkit,
- decision-support tools for port authorities,
- methodologies for planning energy investments,
- pilot actions and investments aimed at strengthening energy autonomy and resilience in port areas.
The intervention also highlighted the strong transferability potential of the project’s outputs, designed to be scalable and replicable across different Mediterranean port environments.
The event provided an important opportunity to exchange experiences with projects funded under different EU cooperation programmes and to contribute to the broader discussion on the future Pact for the Mediterranean and the next generation of territorial cooperation initiatives.
